By Renaud BaronianIn 2021, Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve, then little known outside Scandinavia, received the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for "Julie (in 12 Chapters)" by Joachim Trier. She is back in theaters this Wednesday, in a very different role but still under the direction of this filmmaker, in "Valeur Sentimentale", which won the Grand Prix on the Croisette in May.
The story closely follows two sisters, Nora and Agnès, who were raised by their mother after the departure of their father Gustav, a renowned filmmaker. While they haven't seen him for years, the director bursts into their lives, offering Nora, now a renowned theater actress, the chance to star in his new project. Nora categorically refuses, blaming him for his absences during their childhood, which pushes Gustav to hire a young American woman, Rachel. The immediate effect is to revive painful memories for the two sisters, Nora increasingly despising her father, Agnès trying to reason with her in order to save the fragile balance of the tribe...
